Last Word In Business
DAVID GREENE, HOST:
In Spain, one man is trying to make himself and his country healthier. Today's last word in business is: Fat for Charity.
Oscar Rando is selling his body fat for charity.
RENEE MONTAGNE, HOST:
Well, not literally. Rondo is losing weight by walking and running the full length of Spain - almost 2,000 miles. Sponsors are donating about three dollars to charity for every gram of fat he loses. And for some perspective, there are 454 grams in a pound.
GREENE: Now, the charity he's chosen - Gats - helps disadvantaged local people find jobs, something that is much needed these days, where the unemployment rate is 25 percent.
MONTAGNE: So far, Rando has lost more than 50 pounds. And the Spanish news site Think Spain, the source said he's raised nearly $40,000.
GREENE: Rondo says he's hoping to more than double that figure by the end of the year while slimming down his own figure.
That's the business news here on MORNING EDITION from NPR News. I'm David Greene.
MONTAGNE: And I'm Renee Montagne.
