'Cake Boss' Confections Coming To Grocery Stores

RENEE MONTAGNE, HOST:

And for today's last word in business, how about some cake with your coffee?

Fans of the reality show "Cake Boss" will soon be able to sample baker Buddy Valastro's creations at their local grocery store. The TLC program features Valastro and his staff turning out custom cakes for demanding customers.

DAVID GREENE, HOST:

One cake commissioned by New Jersey governor Chris Christie was big enough to feed 2,000 people. Later this summer, cakes smaller than that one in New Jersey will be massed produced and sold in grocery stores and bakeries all across the country.

MONTAGNE: Cakes will sell for about $28, like one two-layer cake with fudge filling, covered with green frosting and decorated with pink and purple flowers called the Badda Bloom.

And that's the business news on MORNING EDITION from NPR News. I'm Renee Montagne.

GREENE: And I'm David Greene.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "SUGAR, SUGAR")

THE ARCHIES: (Singing) I just can't believe it's true. Oh, sugar, oh honey, honey, you are my candy girl and you got me wanting you. Oh, honey... Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
