The Latest on an investigation into a possible explosive device in Santa Fe (all times local):
12:35 p.m.
Authorities in Santa Fe say a potential explosive device found at the scene of an early morning fight the object turned out to be an inert hand grenade.
A statement released by city officials says the inert grenade was spotted Thursday morning in a parked vehicle as police investigated a fight in a downtown neighborhood.
Santa Fe police, FBI agents and the New Mexico State Police bomb squad followed up on the discovery, an X-ray was used to examine the object, and it then was removed.
According to the statement, the vehicle was impounded as evidence as authorities continue their investigation.
The area was sealed off during the investigation but says there's now normal access to the area.
11:10 a.m.
Authorities in Santa Fe say a "potential explosive device" has been rendered safe and removed from where it was found in a downtown-area neighborhood.
A Police Department spokesman earlier told the Santa Fe New Mexican (https://goo.gl/XP9W3X ) that material described as ammunition and a possible grenade were found in truck, but city spokesman Matt Ross later said the area has been cleared and that confirmed information about the possible device isn't immediately available.
Ross also says area residents are now free to travel in the area of homes and businesses which had been sealed off.
Police said the possible explosive device was spotted by officers detaining and individuals in connection with a fight at the location.

Santa Fe police say a report of a possible explosive device reportedly involves a box described as containing what appeared to be ammunition and possibly a grenade.
The Santa Fe New Mexican (https://goo.gl/XP9W3X ) reports that the material was reported in a truck parked on a downtown-area street now closed while police investigate.
Police spokesman Greg Gurule says the FBI and New Mexico State Police bomb squad are sending personnel to investigate.
Police said previously the possible explosive device was spotted by officers detaining and individuals in connection with a fight at the location.
The scene is on the 300 block of Reed Street, which is an area with homes and businesses, and Gurule says some homes have been evacuated.
9:10 a.m.
A Santa Fe police bomb squad is investigating a possible explosive device found in a car on a street in the downtown area.
City spokesman Matt Ross says the possible device was found by police officers Thursday morning as they detained and interviewed people involved in a fight.
Ross says initial information is that people involved in the fight are connected to the vehicle but that no specifics are immediately available on the possible device.
He says the bomb squad will render it safe if it is an explosive device.
The scene is on the 300 block of Read Street and city officials are advising residents and visitors to avoid the area during the investigation.
