Lawmakers Look To Add Info To New Mexico's Sunshine Portal

Legislation introduced by two lawmakers would enhance New Mexico's Sunshine Portal by requiring additional information on state contracts to be posted online.

The bill sponsored by Republican Sen. Sander Rue of Albuquerque and Democrat Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard of Los Alamos has the support of the New Mexico Association of Commerce and Industry.

The president of the business advocacy group, Beverlee McClure, says the bill would add transparency to the way tax dollars are spent.

Currently, state law requires only the recipient of a state contract, the purpose of the contract and the amounts expended to be posted.

If the legislation were to pass, the portal would also include a copy or link to the actual contract, any amendments and the resident certificate issued and used in the award of the contract.
