Lawsuit: NM Woman Mistreated At Jail

A New Mexico woman has filed a federal lawsuit claiming that a county jail kept her in solitary confinement for around two years and held her in unsanitary conditions.

The recently filed lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque says Jan Green was placed in solitary confinement for long bouts at the Valencia County Detention Center and often was denied medical treatment for her mental illness.

The lawsuit also says Green, who was arrested for domestic violence but later had the charges dropped, was kept in such bad conditions that a sock rotted into an open wound on her foot.

Valencia County warden Joe Chavez disputed the allegations in the lawsuit and said Green, now 50-years-old, was cared for properly and often refused medical treatment.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
