Layoffs At Eclipse Aerospace In New Mexico

Eclipse Aerospace is blaming market conditions for its decision to lay off a number of workers Friday.

A senior vice president with the company, Ed Lundeen, wouldn't say exactly how many workers were affected. But city and state economic development officials say they have been told by the company it plans to hire more workers once the economy improves.

Lundeen says jet plane sales have been slower than Eclipse had hoped for, and that forced a change in the production forecast at its manufacturing plant in Albuquerque.

The layoffs come months after the company announced it would be adding 100 new jobs over the next two years. It has until December 2015 to do that if it wants to continue receiving state funds and rental discounts from the city.
