LCPS School Board Chooses Superintendent Finalists

Las Cruces Public School Board chose Gregory Ewing from the Cobb County School District in Marietta, Georgia, Arsenio Romero, from the Roswell Independent School District, and Gregory Rodriguez from the Huntsville Independent School District in Texas as finalists for the Superintendent position.

School Board President Maria Flores says narrowing the list was difficult.

“It’s experience,” Flores said. “Enthusiasm, a love of teaching, willingness to try new things, and not be afraid to fail or experiment.”

On September 29th, the finalists will be interviewed by stakeholder groups including students, staff, parents and community members, principals, and the leadership team.

Mary Parr-Sanchez, Vice President of NEA New Mexico says they are looking forward to meeting the finalists.

“I think our main qualities that we’d like to see are a well rounded person,” Parr-Sanchez said. “Probably somebody that has a lot of integrity, and someone that wants to work with staff with the teachers and the food service workers and the secretaries, so that we can do our best job for the students.”

The Community will be able to meet the candidates at a forum at Onate High School at 6:30 PM on September 29th; Maria Flores says community input will be important for the final selection.

“They are going to have two very hectic days meeting the public,” Flores said. “Answering questions from principals, teachers, parents, students, and so it’s going to be a very rigorous process, and I think their grace and their ability to reach out to all our stakeholders will be key for us.”

The School Board will select the next superintendent at a meeting on November 3rd.
