"Life of a King" Actor To Appear At Silver City Screening

  Silver City, NM – Western New Mexico University is concluding its Black History Month events with a special appearance by Carlton Byrd, star of the new feature film Life of A King on Sunday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the Global Resource Center auditorium.

Byrd will introduce the film and be available for a question and answer period following the free screening. A native of Fort Myers, Florida, Life of A King is Byrd’s feature film debut and he stars along side Cuba Gooding Jr.

The film tells the true story of ex-felon Eugene Brown who establishes a Chess Club for inner city teenagers in Washington, D.C. The teenagers discover life lessons through the game taught to them by Brown who learned to play chess during his 18-year incarceration for bank robbery.

Life of A King was recently included in the LA Film Fest as an independent feature.

Prior to starting in feature films, Byrd has appeared in several national commercial campaigns and well known television programs. He received his B.F.A. from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where he studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute and Experimental Theater Wing.

Byrd has made appearances on ABC’s Castle, TNT’s Major Crimes, CBS’ Blue Bloodsand NBC’s Law & Order. His short film Close (2011) was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival.
