Las Cruces – Former Dona Ana County Commissioner Bill McCamley is running for a seat on the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.
McCamley made the announcement on Friday, just hours after PRC Chairman Sandy Jones said he had decided not to seek re-election to the seat on the utility regulatory panel.
Jones will run instead for state land commissioner in 2010.
The District 5 seat that Jones holds and McCamley is running for covers the southwest quadrant of New Mexico.
McCamley, of Las Cruces, was a county commissioner for four years. He ran for Congress last year in the 2nd District, losing the Democratic primary to Harry Teague. Teague went on to be elected to Congress.
McCamley has taught college and worked as a development officer at New Mexico State University.
