Lover Testifies In New Mexico Murder Trial

The cousin and girlfriend of escaped Arizona inmate John McCluskey says their run from the law turned into a "huge catastrophe" when an Oklahoma couple they had carjacked less than two hours earlier ended up dead.

Casslyn Welch told jurors Monday that she heard gunshots and McCluskey stepped out of the couple's travel trailer with blood on his clothes.

Welch wiped away tears while testifying for the prosecution.

Welch pleaded guilty last year to charges related to the 2010 murders of Gary and Linda Haas of Tecumseh, Okla. She faces life in prison.

McCluskey is being tried on federal carjacking and murder charges. If convicted, he could face life in prison or the death penalty.

The Haases' bodies were found incinerated in their burned travel trailer in eastern New Mexico.
