Luna County Planning Director Fired After Arrest

By KRWG News

Deming – The Luna County, N.M., officials have fired the county planning director after he was arrested on charges of embezzlement and forgery.

Thirty-eight-year-old Frank Almanza of Deming was arrested Friday and he was released on bond later in the day.

Investigators alleged Almanza used his county-issued credit card for more than $3,000 in non-county purchases in November and December 2010, and altered the receipts.

They claimed he used the county credit card to buy a windshield and pay for maintenance on a car belonging to a friend and bought tires that were found on a vehicle registered to Almanza.

No telephone listing could be found for Almanza in the Deming area, and it was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
