A member of the Luna County sheriff's reserve unit has been arrested after allegedly taking two bottles of prescription narcotics during a weekend drug turn-in event to sell on the street.
Chief Arturo Baeza tells the Deming Headlight that 20-year-old James Goldman was arrested Tuesday morning. He reportedly confessed to taking the pills during a Saturday event in which people turned in their old or unneeded prescription drugs for disposal.
Goldman was a reserve deputy working the event alongside another reserve member and a regular deputy.
Goldman is no longer with the sheriff's reserve unit.
Baeza says Goldman faces two third-degree felony counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. He was being held at the Luna County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond Wednesday.
