By KRWG News

Luna, NM – The small New Mexico town of Luna is still under an evacuation order winds continue to push a wildfire in eastern Arizona.

Fire information officer Michael Puentes says the Wallow fire went around the town Saturday and it was being blown north into an area of scattered ranches on Sunday.

About 200 people live in Luna. Catron County Undersheriff Ian Fletcher says about half the residents decided not to leave when the order was issued Saturday afternoon, but plans are in place to get them out if winds push the flames closer to town.

Winds gusts of 45 mph are blowing the fire on the eastern flank.

The fire now burned nearly 800 square miles or a little more than 511,000 acres. It was 44 percent contained on Sunday morning.
