Major Intersection Closing In Las Cruces Wednesday

Las Cruces – Las Cruces motorists are advised that the intersection of Griggs Avenue and Walnut Street will be closed beginning Wednesday, November 2, 2011 starting at 7 am.

The road closure will be in effect for approximately 30-days while new water/sewer main lines are installed under the intersection as part of the Griggs-Walnut Ground Water Plume Site Project.

Traffic will experience a road closure for north and south bound lanes on Walnut Street from Divot Avenue to East Hadley Avenue. East and west bound Griggs Avenue from Walton Boulevard to Cedar Street.

Motorists seeking access to businesses in the area can do so as before by following detours that are in effect. Access to businesses will be maintained. Motorists will be asked to decrease speed through the detours and should proceed with caution. Motorists using these roads as a through route should seek alternate routes if available.

Traffic will be detoured as follows:

1. Traffic from Lohman Avenue wanting to go North bound on Walnut Street will turn right on Divot Avenue to Walton Boulevard. Left on Walton Boulevard to Griggs Avenue. Right on Griggs Avenue to Triviz Drive. Left on Triviz Drive to Hadley Avenue. Left on Hadley Avenue to Walnut Street.

2. Traffic to Lohman Avenue on Walnut will turn left on Hadley Avenue to Triviz Drive. Right on Triviz Drive to Griggs Avenue. Right on Griggs Avenue to Walton Boulevard. Left on Walton Boulevard to Lohman Avenue.

Highland Enterprises will be installing water and sewer mains at this intersection during this time. RoadRUNNER Transit Route 70 may be affected by these road closures.
