Las Cruces – The New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA) has selected a contractor to provide systems integration services to Spaceport America. B & D Industries, Inc., of Albuquerque, NM, was selected to configure, install and service the many technical systems and networks needed at the spaceport.
The $3.66 million contract will cover a wide range of systems and services to the spaceport. B & D Industries, Inc., will be responsible for configuring Spaceport America's communications distribution system, fire alarm and public address systems, the Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), in addition to a Closed Circuit Television (CCT) system and Security Access Control System (SACS). The contract also calls form a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system and Project 25 Conventional VHF radio system. B & D Industries, Inc., will also provide the equipment cabinets and wiring for main communications rooms in the Terminal Hangar Facility (THF) and the Spaceport Operations Center (SOC).
B & D Industries, Inc., submitted the winning bid for bid SP-014 System Integrator and received the Notification of Award (NOA) on Wednesday, May 4. Serving clients throughout the Southwestern United States, B & D provides complete general contracting, project management and design services for a wide ranges of projects, including corporate, institutional, and private agencies. With extensive experience in governmental systems integration work for Kirtland AFB and Sandia National Laboratories, B & D is well suited to provide design, installation, fabrication and maintenance services for Spaceport America.
Spaceport America has been providing commercial launch services since 2006. The state-of-the-art launch facility is under construction near Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, and is expected to become fully operational in 2011. Officials at Spaceport America have been working closely with leading aerospace firms such as Armadillo Aerospace, Virgin Galactic, Lockheed Martin, Moog-FTS, and UP Aerospace to develop commercial spaceflight at the new facility.
