Major US 70 Work In Las Cruces

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) with Holly Frontier Refining and Dismuke Construction will be working along US-70 from Del Rey Boulevard (exit 150) to the Aguirre Springs turn off, including the frontage roads (Bataan East & West) within these limits.

The NMDOT and contractors will be conducting maintenance operations along the roadway to preserve and extend the longevity of the road. The department has communicated with the City of Las Cruces in developing a traffic control plan that will minimize congestion.

In addition, the NMDOT has coordinated with the City to conduct this work during the evening and early morning hours, which will be from 7:00 pm until 5:00 am, Monday through Friday. The work zone will be completely open to the traveling public during peak hours. The project is scheduled to start on Monday, October 3, 2011 and should be completed by the first week of December 2011 (weather permitting). Traffic control will be established on the eastbound lanes at mile post 150/Del Rey Boulevard, where motorists will be restricted to one lane with frontage road and all ramps open.

Motorists are encouraged to exercise extreme caution as the NMDOT and contractors work through the overnight hours in conducting crack sealing and fog sealing along the roadway. The department will work in 5 mile increments where their main priority will be on the main route of US-70, and then will mobilize operations on to the frontage roads.

Traffic alerts will be posted on the department road advisory www.nmroads.com and can be accessed by travelers by call 511. For further information please contact Bridget M. Spedalieri Public Information Officer for the NMDOT District One office at (575) 525-7340 or bridget.spedalieri@state.nm.us .
