Man Arrested, Again, for Domestic Incident with Ex-Girlfriend

For the second time since late July, Las Cruces Police have arrested a man suspected of strangling his ex-girlfriend.

Jesus Garcia, 21, of the 100 block of Cinnabar Lane, is now charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, battery against a household member and false imprisonment.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the report of a domestic incident at Garcia’s residence. Officers arrived and made contact with Garcia’s 23-year-old ex-girlfriend who indicated that she was battered and strangled by Garcia.

Detectives learned that the woman went to Garcia’s residence so he could see their young child. After arriving at Garcia’s home, the two got into an argument that quickly escalated.

Garcia is accused of strangling the woman to the point where she nearly lost consciousness. He’s also accused of throwing the woman to the floor and placing his foot upon her neck.

The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening.

On July 29, police charged Garcia with aggravated battery against a household member, battery against a household member and criminal damage to property for a domestic incident involving the same woman. He was arrested for that incident July 29 and released from jail on Aug. 1.

Garcia is now being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a secured bond set at $50,000.
