Man Arrested In Las Cruces In Killing Of Santa Fe-Area Woman

New Mexico state police have arrested a 57-year-old man accused of killing a Santa Fe-area woman whose dead body was found in her blood-splattered bathroom of her home.

State police say Robert Mondrian-Powell was booked into the Dona Ana County jail after detectives arrested him Friday in Las Cruces on a murder charge in the death of 67-year-old Elvira Segura of Nambe.

According to court documents, Mondrian-Powell had lived with Segura, a former Santa Fe librarian.

Her car was found abandoned in Las Cruces on Sept. 24, and officers found Segura's body while conducting a welfare check at her home three days later.

An autopsy indicated she'd been dead for weeks, and neighbors told police they'd heard gunshots at the house three weeks before the welfare check.
