Man Assaults "Occupy" Protesters

By KRWG News

Albuquerque – Albuquerque police have subdued a 48-year-old man who lunged with a knife at a group of protesters gathered near the University of New Mexico in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Police Sgt. Patrick Ficke says about 100 people were in the area when Miguel Aguirre pulled out a knife and attempted to stab several protesters.

Ficke says no one was injured.

Officers arrived and found Aguirre nearby at restaurant parking lot. He refused their commands and was tazed before being taken into custody.

Ficke says it's not immediately clear what sparked the assault. He also did not have any other details about Aguirre.

The incident happened Friday evening, and Ficke says the investigation is just beginning.
