Man Charged With Attacking Las Cruces Police Officer

A Las Cruces Police officer escaped injury and was able to subdue a man who resisted commands and physically attacked the officer Saturday morning.

Henry L. Morris, 41, of the 700 block of Hellenic Way, is charged with one count each of battery on a peace officer and resisting an officer.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday, April 27, Las Cruces Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at Morris’ residence. Morris’ girlfriend had called 911 as the two argued.

As the officer arrived at the residence, he made contact with Morris who was facing his girlfriend with his hands in his pockets. For safety reasons the officer asked that Morris step outside and remove his hands from his pockets.

Morris refused to comply and became aggressive when the officer attempted to frisk him. Morris grasped the officer’s uniform and tackled him. The officer quickly responded and was able to subdue Morris.

The officer was not injured during the confrontation. Morris was transported to a local hospital where he received medical attention.

Morris was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
