Man Charged With Burglarizing Las Cruces Hair Salon

Las Cruces Police arrested a man suspected of burglarizing a hair salon late Tuesday evening.

Alex Cortez, 31, of the 200 block of Encinos Way in Anthony, N.M., is charged with non-residential burglary, larceny, and one count of resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, a Las Cruces Police officer on duty near Three Crosses Avenue spotted a man, later identified as Cortez, near the back door of a nearby business. As the officer approached, Cortez took off running and dropped a bag near one of the businesses.

Cortez led officers on a brief foot pursuit before being detained.

Officers discovered property from The Doll House, at 225 Three Crosses Ave., in the bag that Cortez discarded. Officers subsequently learned that a window appeared to be the entry point of the burglary at The Doll House.

Cortez was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $7,000.
