Man Charged In Las Cruces Stabbing

Las Cruces Police arrested a man suspected of getting into a fight with two people and stabbing one of them Tuesday evening.

Carlos David Duran, 47, is charged with one count each of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and battery.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, Las Cruces Police were alerted to a fight that occurred at an apartment at 1102 Foster Road. Detectives learned that the apartment’s tenant, a woman, was in the process of moving out when Duran entered the residence. Duran and the woman got into an argument that quickly became physical.

Another man who was helping the woman move out attempted to get Duran out of the apartment but was instead stabbed by Duran who apparently picked up a kitchen knife during the struggle.

Before Duran fled from the apartment, he struck the man over the head with a large stick. The victim received two stab wounds, to his wrist and arm, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

Duran was located by police shortly after the incident and was subsequently booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
