Man Convicted In Alamogordo Murder

A jury in Alamogordo has convicted a 23-year-old man in a fatal drive-by shooting in which the man's father also was accused before he died while in custody.

The Alamogordo Daily news reports that the jury on Tuesday convicted Benjamin David Baroz II of felony murder and other charges.

Baroz had testified that he didn't fatally shoot 18-year-old Matthew Cordova and that his father did it.

Benjamin David Baroz Jr. was charged with murder in the case but died in the Otero County Detention Center about four days after the August 2011 shooting took place.

The younger Baroz said he later confessed to police in order to protect his father.

The prosecution alleges the son killed Cordova because he was mad about losing a fistfight to Cordova.
