An Albuquerque man convicted of killing and sexually assaulting his 1-month-old daughter faces 63 years in prison.
KRQE-TV reports that Juan Galindo cried and apologized in state District Court during his sentencing Monday.
A jury in January convicted Galindo of child abuse resulting in death and child rape.
Galindo had said the 28-day-old baby choked on a bottle and died, and his trial defense was that he was actually trying to save her and any beating marks were related to CPR.
The baby was in Galindo's care at the time. She had bite marks, a skull fracture, multiple rib fractures and vaginal and anal injuries.
