Man Gets 23.5 Years For Alamogordo Home Invasion

A man who was 17 years old at the time of a southern New Mexico home invasion in which a woman was beaten while sleeping has been sentenced to 23.5 years in prison.

The Alamogordo Daily News reports that 18-year-old Rey Arias was sentenced Monday by District Judge James W. Counts.

A jury convicted Arias of kidnapping, aggravated burglary and other charges in the March 2013 invasion of the 58-year-old victim's home in Chaparral.

The woman had previously hired Arias to do yard work. She was locked in the bathroom after being beaten.

Counts in October granted a prosecution request that Arias face adult sanctions in the case.

Another defendant convicted in the case was sentenced in July to 30 years in the case.
