Man Gets Life Sentence For El Paso Prostitution Scam

A man who lured girls and women from Mexico into prostitution with false newspaper advertisements for U.S. jobs must serve life in federal prison.

Charles Marquez was sentenced Wednesday in El Paso.

Prosecutors say the victims from 2007 through early 2012 were transported to El Paso, put up in motels and forced into prostitution.

A jury in November convicted Marquez of sex trafficking of a minor, transporting for prostitution, conspiracy to coerce or entice a minor to engage in sexually explicit activity, coercion or enticement, importation of an undocumented immigrant for immoral purpose and sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion.

Authorities say Marquez conspired with Martha Jimenez Sanchez of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. She pleaded guilty in 2012 to transportation for prostitution but fled before sentencing and remains a fugitive.
