Man Gets Long Prison Term For Drug Trafficking In New Mexico

A California man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearm violations in New Mexico.

Prosecutors say 31-year-old Marcos Anthony Correa of San Bernardino also was sentenced Tuesday to five years of supervised release after his prison term.

Correa was indicted in the case in August 2014. He pleaded guilty in June 2015 to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and using a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

Prosecutors say Correa admitted to possessing more than 87 grams of methamphetamine that he intended to deliver to another person on May 30, 2014 in Colfax County.

He also admitted to being armed with a semi-automatic pistol and ammunition to protect himself and his drugs in case someone tried to rob him.
