Man Guilty In Assault At House Party

Omar Alanazi was found guilty on 2 counts of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon for the events that took place at a house party on February 23, 2013.

Erica Dawson, said at approximately 1:30am she heard people yelling “Crips” and “Bloods” among other gang slurs. A fight broke out and bottles were being thrown.  The defendant fired the hand gun into the floor and then cornered Tristan Billingsley at gunpoint.

Ms. Dawson quickly advised her friends to seek safety upstairs and then heard a gunshot.

Ms. Dawson realized she was bleeding as a result of shrapnel. At the urging of friend Akeisha Stewart the decision was made to seek medical attention.

While backing out a car approached them and she saw someone hanging out of the vehicle pointing a gun at them.

Prosecuting attorney, Daniel Sewell from the District Attorney’s office said, “Ms. Stewart and Ms. Dawson traveled from New Orleans and Los Angeles to testify in this case. Both were satisfied with the outcome.”

Following the verdict the defendant was taken into custody with bond set at $15,000. Alanazi is facing a total of 5 years’ incarceration; which includes a mandatory 2 years for using a handgun in the commission of the crime. Sentencing will take place in 30 days.
