Man Indicted In Case Of Caged Las Cruces Girl

A man linked to the locking up of an 8-year-old Las Cruces girl with developmental disabilities in a wooden cage has been indicted.  37-year-old Edmond Gonzales was indicted this week by a grand jury on five counts of child abuse and one of child abandonment.

Police say that Gonzales and his girlfriend, Cindy Patriarchias, left an 8-year-old girl in a makeshift bed police described as a "wooden cage" last month while they took three other children to the movies.

Indictment documents show Gonzales has previous convictions for drug trafficking, possession and attempted unlawful use of an ATM card.

Patriarchias, the aunt of the girl, was arrested in the case but has not been indicted.

It was unclear if Gonzales had an attorney.
