Doña Ana County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death of a 26-year-old man who they suspect accidentally jumped to his death from a moving train.
According to an initial investigation, the man appears to have died from blunt force trauma to the head, likely from a rock. Detectives believe he tried to jump from the train and misjudged the landing.
An employee with BNSF Railway reportedly saw the body at approximately 5:17 Thursday morning and notified authorities. The body was found near the railroad tracks, approximately 12 miles northwest of Interstate 10 off County Road B-4.
Detectives believe the man is from central Texas or Louisiana, and they are working to notify his next of kin.
