Man Pleads Guilty To Robbing Bank In Albuquerque Last Year

A Rio Rancho man has pleaded guilty to robbing a bank in Albuquerque last year and is facing up to 20 years in federal prison.

Prosecutors say 23-year-old Joshua Abeyta pleaded guilty in federal court in Albuquerque.

Abeyta was arrested last October on a criminal complaint charging him with robbing the Santa Fe Federal Credit Bank.

The complaint alleges that Abeyta robbed the bank by handing a handwritten note with a robbery demand to a bank teller.

The teller compiled and Abeyta left the scene on foot and was pursued by customers of the bank before being arrested by an Albuquerque police officer.

He was indicted in the case last November.

Abeyta remains in custody pending a sentencing hearing, which is scheduled for Nov. 17.
