Man Sought In New Mexico Killing Caught In Phoenix

A man sought in a killing and sexual assault in Albuquerque, New Mexico, was apprehended after being seen riding a bike in Phoenix.

The U.S. Marshals Service says deputy marshals conducting surveillance on an apartment complex in west-central Phoenix while looking for 31-year-old Carmel Gutierrez spotted him Sunday while he was riding a bike.

Gutierrez fled but was arrested nearby by Phoenix police officers.

Gutierrez was sought in the Aug. 14 beating death of Mary Ellen Gutierrez, whose body was found covered by a rug in a vacant lot.

According to the victim's son, she was not related to the suspect.
