A man is suing an Albuquerque school district over an arrest that happened seven years ago.
The Albuquerque Journal reported Tuesday that Quentin Scott has filed a lawsuit against two former Albuquerque Public Schools officials for what he says was his unlawful arrest at age 12.
Scott says he was arrested in 2007 after trying to sell a small blade from a pencil sharpener.
According to the complaint, Scott says the school resource officer who arrested him violated his Fourth Amendment rights when he searched him. Scott, who has bipolar disorder, says he suffered injuries during his arrest and "probable permanent psychological impairment."
The officer is also named in his complaint.
Scott is seeking compensation, punitive damages and attorney fees.
APS spokeswoman Monica Armenta declined to comment.
