Man Suspected of Beating, Kidnapping Girlfriend

Las Cruces Police arrested a man suspected of beating up his girlfriend early Saturday morning and holding the woman against her will.

Armando C. Silva Jr., 20, is charged with one first-degree felony count of kidnapping and one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, a third-degree felony.

At around 4 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Crystal Court to investigate the report of a domestic incident with injury. As one of the officers pulled up near the residence, he noticed a dark blue Ford Ranger leaving the area. The officer ordered the driver to stop but the driver, later identified as Silva, refused the command.

The Ford Ranger crashed a short distance away and Silva suffered what appeared to be a broken arm during the rollover.

Detectives learned that Silva was hosting a get-together at his home on the 4900 block of Galina Drive when he got into an argument with his 19-year-old girlfriend. Detectives learned that Silva became physical with the woman when all their friends left.

Silva is alleged to have struck the woman with his fists and attempted to strangle her inside his residence. Silva also, allegedly, used force to keep the woman from leaving his residence.

The woman was able to lock herself into a bathroom before jumping out a window and seeking help. The woman suffered a bloody nose, and had several bruises and abrasions on her face and neck. Her injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

After being released from a local hospital, Silva was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. He was released Sunday on a $10,000 secured bond.
