Man Suspected of Choking, Threatening Wife In Las Cruces

  Las Cruces Police arrested a man suspected of choking his wife and threatening her with a butcher knife during an argument early Monday morning.

Ruben Salgado, 37, of the 4200 block of Hoffman Road, is charged with two of aggravated battery against a household member, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of false imprisonment and two counts of battery against a household member.

Police were dispatched to the report of a domestic incident at Salgado’s residence at about 12:30 a.m.Monday, Aug. 29. Officers arrived to find a 27-year-old woman with visible bruising to her neck.

Salgado was no longer at the residence.

Detectives learned that Salgado and the woman, his wife, got into an argument that became physical. Salgado is suspected of using his hands to choke his wife and refused to allow her to leave the residence. He’s also accused of arming himself with a butcher knife which he used to threaten his wife.

The couple’s four children were in the residence at the time of the incident. The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Salgado was later located and detained by police. He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is initially being held without bond.
