Authorities say a man led police on a chase through Albuquerque's Coronado Mall parking lot as pedestrians dodged behind parked cars to avoid being hit by him.
Sergeant Ferris Simmons says 24-year-old Justin Cordova was apprehended Sunday. The pursuit ended after Cordova reportedly crashed a van into three vehicles stopped at a traffic light near the mall. He and a female passenger tried to flee on foot.
Police were alerted to Cordova earlier as he drove the van on mall property while apparently trying to avoid security.
When a police car pulled in front of Cordova's van, he threw it into reverse, ramming a security vehicle and then speeding away.
Simmons says an officer suffered minor injuries as he narrowly escaped being hit. A man who also attempted to get out of the way was struck with a side mirror.
Police say the van and a handgun thrown out of the vehicle had been stolen.
