Las Cruces – New Mexico State Police are awaiting autopsy results on a decomposed body found by the side of Interstate 10 west of Las Cruces.
State police Capt. Rich Libicer says the man's identity and cause of death have not been determined.
Authorities say the man appeared to have been dead for at least three weeks.
Libicer says there was no obvious cause of death.
He says the state police treat every unattended death as a homicide until information indicates otherwise.
Truck driver Patrick Liddell spotted the body in the bushes Monday when he broke down near the westbound exit to Corralitos in southern New Mexico.
He told the Las Cruces Sun-News he saw some fingers sticking out and dialed 911.
