Martin Heinrich To Run For US Senate

By KRWG News

SANTA FE, N.M. – Two sources confirmed to The Associated Press that Heinrich will announce his candidacy on Saturday. They spoke on condition of anonymity on Friday to avoid upstaging his formal announcement.

Heinrich, 39, is the first prominent Democrat to jump into the race. In 2008, he became the first Democrat in 40 years to win the Albuquerque-area 1st Congressional District seat. He won re-election in November.

Bingaman announced in February he will not seek re-election in 2012 when his fifth term in the Senate expires.

On the Republican side, former Congresswoman Heather Wilson announced her Senate candidacy earlier this month.
