Martin Unanimously Voted Into LSU Chancellor Post

By Evan Woodward

Las Cruces, NM – This afternoon Dr. Michael Martin was officially named the new Chancellor at the main campus of Louisiana State University, in Baton Rouge. LSU System Vice President for Communications and External Affairs, Charles Zewe says the University's Board of Supervisors voted unanimously and enthusiastically to hire Martin.

"They took that vote after Dr. John Lombardi who is the LSU System President, praised Dr. Martin for his tenure at New Mexico State and for his long experience and strong leadership in leading University campuses. There was really no discussion on the part of the supervisors and certainly no opposition since it was a unanimous vote so it went rather quickly."

Zewe says Martin officially assumes his Chancellors duties on the first of August, and will work with University leaders in the meantime. His total annual compensation package is $525,000 a year, plus use of the Chancellors house, and all of its expenses. Martin will also receive a vehicle, a country club membership and a dining club membership.

The New Mexico State University Board of Regents met in closed session today, and is expected to name NMSU's Interim President during a public meeting Friday.
