Martinez Appoints Hobbs Woman To Fifth Judicial District Court

Office of the Governor

Today Governor Susana Martinez announced the appointment of Laura Castillo of Hobbs to the Fifth Judicial District Court in Lea County. Governor Martinez recently signed into law House Bill 141, which created additional judgeships throughout the state. Castillo’s appointment to the Fifth Judicial District Court fills one of these vacancies.

“Laura Castillo’s diverse legal experience will be very valuable in setting the right tone for this newly established judgeship, and I am confident she will ably serve the people of Lea County,” said Governor Martinez.

Castillo has practiced law in the private sector, and has also served as assistant district attorney for the Fifth Judicial District. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, and a Juris Doctorate from Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas.
