Martinez Chooses Public Safety Leader

By KRWG News

New Mexico – Gov.-elect Susan Martinez has selected U.S. Marshal Gorden E. Eden Jr. as her nominee to run the state Department of Public Safety.

Eden has served as the federal marshal in New Mexico since 2002.

He was director of the state Motor Vehicle Division from November 1997 through May 2002 during former Gov. Gary Johnson's administration. He was bureau chief of the training and recruitment division in the Department of Public Safety from 1991 to 1995.

Eden's appointment to the cabinet-level post is subject to confirmation by the state Senate.

As department secretary, Eden will oversee an agency that includes the state police and motor transportation officers.

Martinez, a Republican, takes office on Jan. 1.
