Martinez Forms Teacher Evaluation Task Force

By KRWG News

New Mexico – Gov. Susana Martinez is forming a task force to recommend a plan for evaluating and paying teachers based on student achievement.

The Republican governor issued an executive order Monday to establish a group of up to 15 members, which will submit a report to her by late August.

The governor hopes to accomplish what failed during this year's legislative session. A proposal for a performance-based teacher and school administrator evaluation system passed the Senate but died upon adjournment without a vote in the House.

Public Education Secretary Hanna Skandera is the task force chairwoman. Other members are to include parents, teachers, administrators and business representatives. The administration is soliciting nominations through May 2 for possible members to be appointed by the governor.
