By KRWG News

New Mexico – Gov. Susana Martinez has named longtime prosecutor Amy Orlando as her successor as district attorney in Dona Ana County.

Martinez vacated the position in becoming governor and Orlando's appointment was announced shortly after Martinez took office on Saturday.

Orlando has worked in the 3rd Judicial District Attorney's office for 17 years and has been chief deputy district attorney since 2006.

Martinez had served as district attorney since 1997.

Orlando grew up in Albuquerque and received an undergraduate degree in social work from New Mexico State University. She earned a law degree in 1992 from Drake University in Iowa.
