Martinez Scores Top Spot On GOP Ballot

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Republican Susana Martinez has earned the top position on the June primary election ballot for governor by outdistancing four other candidates at a party nominating convention

Martinez, the Dona Ana County district attorney, received almost 47 percent of the votes of GOP convention delegates on Saturday. Former state GOP chairman Allen Weh got 26 percent.

Three other candidates failed to receive the required 20 percent vote to earn an automatic position on the party's ballot in the June 1 primary election. They were state Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones, businessman Doug Turner and Albuquerque lawyer Pete Domenici Jr.

However, they can still get on the ballot by submitting more signatures on nominating petitions to the secretary of state.
