Martinez Seeks Contracting Bill In Fall Session
By KRWG News
New Mexico – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) Gov. Susana Martinez is expanding the Legislature's agenda for a special session this fall.
Martinez said Tuesday she will ask lawmakers to consider a proposal revamping a preference given to in-state businesses for bidding on government contracts.
The governor said during a visit in Roswell that she wants to help local companies get contracts with the state.
The Legislature is expected to meet in September to deal with redistricting but the Republican governor has said she will add other issues to the agenda, including halting the state's practice of granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.
Martinez vetoed a resident business bid preference bill passed in this year's legislative session, but a spokesman said the governor will support the measure if a drafting error is fixed.
