Martinez Visits Ruidoso Wednesday

By KRWG News

Ruidoso – Gov. Susana Martinez plans to visit Ruidoso Wednesday to be briefed on the response to a wildfire that officials say has burned a handful of homes and outbuildings since it ignited this weekend.

Barricades were lifted Monday from neighborhoods evacuated in the Ruidoso Downs area after residents were forced out Sunday.

The fire was 20 percent contained Tuesday. The blaze broke out Sunday in Gavilan Canyon and was fanned by 50 to 60 mph winds. As of Tuesday, it had burned nearly 16 square miles of grass, brush and pinon and juniper trees on private, state and federal land about 200 miles south of Albuquerque.
