New Mexico – Gov. Susana Martinez says the state labor department's call center will expand its hours and by mid-February will nearly double the number of workers taking calls from the unemployed.
Martinez says long wait times and persistent lack of service at the Department of Workforce Solutions are unacceptable.
The governor says the agency needs to create an environment that allows people to get back to work.
She says she's asked the department to develop a long-term plan to make it easier for New Mexicans to do business online.
On Tuesday, she ordered the Unemployment Insurance Call Center to extend its hours and reassigned workers to answer calls.
Martinez also says new representatives are being trained and she's instructed department officials to offer former employees a chance to return to work.
