Men Held In New Mexico License Fraud
Authorities say two Guatemalan nationals have been arrested in a scheme to illegally obtain New Mexico driver's licenses after being driven from New Jersey.
32-year-old Fabian Guerra-Pirir and 28-year-old Hector Martinez-Cruz were arrested Friday on driver's license forgery and conspiracy charges. According to a police report, the pair told investigators they were driven from New Jersey to New Mexico to obtain the licenses.
Officers said both men had temporary New Mexico driver's licenses.
Also arrested in the alleged scheme were 29-year-old Rommel "Danny" Salazar-Duran and 39-year-old Edith Munoz-Trujillo.
It was unclear if any had attorneys.
The arrests come as Gov. Susana Martinez continues to push state lawmakers to repeal a New Mexico law that allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses.
