Mexico Nabs Suspected Zetas Cartel Figure Near Texas Border

Mexican authorities say they have detained a suspected drug cartel figure who was on their list of the country's 122 priority targets for arrest.

The Mexican navy says 34-year-old Ramiro Perez Moreno was arrested early Monday along with four other suspects in the city of Nuevo Laredo, across the border from Laredo, Texas.

The navy said in a statement that Perez Moreno was apparently in line to take over the Zetas drug gang following the March 4 arrest of suspected capo Omar Trevino Morales.

However not much was known about him in comparison with higher-profile cartel figures, and there has been significant fighting over territory.

The Zetas carved a path of brutal bloodshed along the country's northern border with the U.S. in recent years.
