Alamogordo – The Miss New Mexico pageant is leaving Alamogordo, where it has been staged for the past 13 years.
The pageant's executive director, Carol Henry, says the competition is being relocated to the Kiva Auditorium in Albuquerque. This year's event is scheduled June 13-18.
The winner earns the Miss New Mexico title and competes for the Miss America crown.
Henry says a move to Albuquerque has been in the works for the last few years. But she says Alamogordo has been so good to the pageant that organizers hesitated until this year.
Henry says the move should make the pageant more "centralized" and build a stronger reputation for the organization.
She says it's possible the pageant could return to Alamogordo in the future.
